Tanzania’s second highest and fifth highest in Africa overall, Mount Meru is the first sight you’ll get as you near the city of Arusha from outside. Lying within the borders of the Arusha National Park, the scenic beauty of this mountain which serves as an excellent backdrop for the plains of this park is unparallel. Furthermore, the lower reaches of the mountain which are mainly forest and woodlands are accommodating place for wide range of wild animals which account for majority of the wildlife found in Arusha National Park. 3 Days Mount Meru Climbing is filled with adventure and jubilation.

With a height of 4,566 meters, it is 1,000 meter shorter than Kilimanjaro. It is just situated 70 Km from Mount Kilimanjaro and is clearly visible from there on a clear given day. Trekkers often use Mount Meru as a warm up climbing destination before trekking Mount Kilimanjaro for acclimatization purposes. Because of its relatively shorter height, not-so-hard trekking routes, and closeness to the city of Arusha, it is widely popular among tourists. Another benefit of Climbing Mount Meru is it is free from crowd and you’ll find yourself to be the only person in the forging ahead in the mountain.

Besides being a wonderful trekking destination with stunning trekking routes, Mount Meru also boasts of excellent wildlife concentration and as you trek your way up to the top, you’ll see many wild animals including elephants, monkeys, warthogs, buffaloes etc. Because of these wild animals, Mount Meru Trekking tours are often accompanied by an armed ranger. 3Days Mount Meru Climbing

The walk from miriakamba hut to the saddle below little meru is a short day but a steep sustained climbing all the way. The afternoon is free to rest and enjoy the views. For energetic ones, can make the short climb to the nearby summit of little meru {3’820 m} for superb views just before sunset. It takes about 3 – 5 hours walking.

Day 3: Rhino point

An early start at around 0200 hrs to climb steeply to rhino point
{3’800 m} the path continues along an undulating ridge of ash and rock to reach Cobra Point {4’350 m.} at around sunrise. The views are stunning: the cliffs of the Crater rim, the Ash Cone rising from the crater floor, Kilimanjaro floating on the morning clouds, and the Rift Valley if the weather is clear. The summit of Socialist Pak {4’566 m} is an hour more on a superb but often steep path. The route back to Rhino Point in the sharp morning light along a narrow ridge between the sloping outer wall of the crater and the sheer cliffs of the inner wall is one of the most dramatic and exhilarating walks in Africa.
