Namiri Plains: Accommodations and Location
Guest Tent – 2 pax
(10 ROOMS)
Namiri Plains features ten elegantly designed tented suites offering sweeping 360-degree views of the expansive plains. The recently upgraded guest rooms have seen a substantial increase in size, now boasting sliding doors that extend the full length of the room and open onto a full-length viewing deck. Constructed from natural calcrete found in the area, these rooms not only enhance the aesthetic appeal but also play a crucial role in regulating the temperature within the suites.
Family Tent – 4 pax
(1 ROOM)
The family tent at Namiri Plains offers a larger space compared to the double tents, with a newly upgraded design featuring sliding doors that provide expansive views and direct access to a full-length viewing deck. The bathroom features floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the seasonal riverbed, and a private resin bathtub on the deck offers exceptional views while you relax. The family tent includes an additional room with two single beds that can be converted into a double, accommodating up to four guests.
Location of Namiri Plains
Namiri Plains is strategically positioned along the Ngare Nanyuki River in the eastern Serengeti. The vast grassland plains are mostly open, with occasional acacia trees and granite kopjes dotting the landscape. The underlying hard calcrete layer prevents the growth of many trees and shrubs, contributing to the open, expansive views.
Year-Round Game Viewing
One of the few locations in the eastern Serengeti with permanent underground water sources, Namiri Plains offers excellent game viewing throughout the year. The seasonal riverbed and rich grasslands attract a variety of plains game, providing ample opportunities for observing the numerous big cats that inhabit the area. The habitat is ideal for cheetahs, who thrive in the short grass plains and rugged terrain, as well as lions, which are frequently seen perched atop the kopjes.
Migration and Seasonality
From late October, the Great Migration typically moves south through Namiri Plains, with over a million wildebeest engulfing the surrounding area. This migration continues to the fertile short grass plains of the southern Serengeti, which remains accessible from Namiri until late May or early June.
