Dorcas John Travel Consultant Realize “There’s Room to Grow at GIE”. Hearing guest speakers from GIE share their journeys inspired Dorcas, a then college student, to want to join the company.
When guest speakers from Safari came to Dorcas’s work to speak and share their own experiences with the company, Dorcas was inspired by the passion showcased by the associates. So much so that she knew she wanted to follow in their footsteps.
“[They] shared their experiences with such passion, I knew I wanted to work in the industry, and GIE seemed like the perfect fit,” says Dorcas, who attended Wildlife and Hospitality College in Arusha. She also received a scholarship from her friend’s Foundation that helped her continue her studies.
Thanks to the connections she made while in the program, Dorcas started her post-college career in hospitality in Tanzania! Her first role was as a receptionist at the Gran Melia Hotel.

Seven years later, Dorcas became the GIE tour consultant. In addition to helping attract guests and enhance the brand’s image, she focuses on having meaningful relationships with her peers and learning from all the different cultures that converge at GIE.
“GIE has made me feel at home by encouraging me to BE myself and share my ideas. I’ve connected with others in tourism where we share common values and experiences,” she says. “Plus, seeing leaders who look like me shows that there’s room to grow and that my voice matters here.”
