Laba Siwandu Camp

Laba Siwandu Camp

Laba Siwandu Camp. Broadly spaced along the shore of Lake Nzerakera, with the BehoBeho mountains in the distance, Siwandu’s spacious and stylish safari tents ensure maximum privacy. Soak up the sights and sounds of the African bush, observing animals as they saunter past. Explore the breathtaking landscape on foot on a morning game walk, by 4WD vehicles with an expert driver guide and on the water with boat cruises on both the river and the lake.

Boasting UNESCO World Heritage Site status, Nyerere National Park (former Selous Game Reserve) is home to diverse wildlife, with more than half of Tanzania’s elephant population, over 40,000 hippos, the largest population of lions on the continent and well known for the wild dog sightings.

Siwandu Tented Suites (13 Rooms)

Broadly spaced along the lakeshore, Siwandu’s superbly appointed accommodation ensures maximum privacy and every opportunity to soak up the sights and sounds of Selous. From either of the wooden decks, sit with a cup of tea at sunrise, watching the bush come to life, or relax with a gin and tonic as the bush blushes under sunset.

The ten spacious octagonal canvas tents and secure mosquito netting topped in thatch allow for constant airflow and allow guests to gaze upon the animals as they sail past. Observe them while reclining on the majestic king-sized bed under the overhead fan or from the open-air Stargazer with solar-heated showers that adjoin the en suite bathrooms.

Siwandu is perfect for an intimate, uninterrupted bush experience. It allows one to forget all the troubles of the modern world and immerse oneself in unspoilt nature with just the right amount of bush luxury.

Activities:

Game Drives
Travel around the reserve in our comfortable 4WD open-sided vehicles with our expert driver guides. While our game drives are a shared experience with fellow guests, Siwandu offers a private car with a driver guide, which can be booked in advance for a daily surcharge.

Game Walks

Walking is an excellent way to get close to nature and learn about some of the smaller species and ecosystems in the reserve, as well as the flora and fauna. The walk is slow-paced, and you stop under the shade to hear interesting things from your knowledgeable guide. Game Walks are offered to guests aged 16 and over, but we offer Children’s Walks within our campgrounds just before afternoon tea.

Boat Cruises

Explore the sinuous waterways of the Rufiji River delta, the largest in East Africa. When the rains have fallen, cruises venture into the river,, but for the rest of the year,, Siwandu guests boat on Lake Nzerakera in sturdy metal boats with covered canopies and our glorious pontoon boat. The latter allows guests the luxury of dining or sipping a sundowner on the move while watching animals come down to drink and enjoying the incredible variety of bird life.
