Top Activities at Lake Mburo
Lake Mburo is unique for offering activities that put you directly in the ecosystem, unlike many other parks:
Walking Safaris (Guided): Lake Mburo is one of the few parks in Uganda where you can walk freely (with an armed ranger). This offers a close, intimate view of the wildlife, especially at the Salt Lick, where animals gather to lick the salty soil.
Boat Safari on Lake Mburo: A relaxing trip that provides excellent sightings of hippos, crocodiles, and a massive variety of water birds, including the African Fish Eagle and the elusive African Finfoot. mmm
Game Drives (Day & Night): The classic safari experience to spot zebras, impalas, elands, and buffaloes. Night game drives are an option for seeking out elusive nocturnal animals like leopards and hyenas.
Horseback Safaris: A truly unique experience (offered by one of the lodges) that allows you to get incredibly close to animals like zebras and impalas, as they are less skittish around horses than vehicles.
Cycling Safaris/Mountain Biking: Explore the open plains with a ranger on a bicycle for an adventurous, eco-friendly way to see the park.
Birdwatching: With over 315 species, the park is a birder’s paradise, especially the acacia woodlands around Rwonyo and the wetlands.
