Mysigio Tented Camp

The camp is set away from the busy crater rim, ensuring tranquillity. It is an exclusive, semi-permanent campsite with no permanent platforms or plumbing for the tents, which would damage the environment within the conservation area.
We have been based in the area for almost three decades and feel grateful to call Chief Ole Dorop and his family our friends. He arranges adorable and authentic Maasai activities at the camp, allowing guests to experience these ancient traditions. Ole Dorop can join clients for dinner and take a short or half-day walk from the camp. He and his sons have fascinating conversations about their life in Ngorongoro and themselves as Maasai travelling the world!

Facilities:

The camp comprises 10 eco-luxe tents with complete en-suite bathroom facilities. A wood-heated lounge and a mess are available as dining.

Mysigio Camp runs on 100% solar-powered light, from the well-lit paths to the bedside reading lights, ensuring that noisy generators do not spoil the clear Ngorongoro atmosphere.

The wood-burning stove is designed to run on eco-briquettes made from remnants of coconut and cashew husks and waste charcoal that would otherwise be discarded.

The camp has a solar-powered inverter enables guests to charge cameras and phone batteries. It is not hefty enough to cope with hairdryers, laptops or shavers.

Activities:

-Mysigio Tented Camp offers a wide range of activities, most of which are conducted with the Maasai tribe, which lives nearby in Mysigio Village.

-Take a glimpse into a young warrior’s life by participating in the Maasai Orpul Ceremony. The Orpul Ceremony is a traditional Maasai ceremony for young warriors. You will find answers here if you have ever wondered what roasted goat tastes or how the Maasai cure sickness with natural remedies. You can try medicinal soup and roasted goat.

-Maasai dance with the village’s warriors and young girls. Their mesmerizing, throaty voices and their jumping are a wonder.
Visit Maasai Boma and experience its traditional life. From Mysigio Camp, you can arrange short, half-day, or full-day walks with a Ranger and Maasai escort. Whether a short stroll or a hefty hike, Ngorongoro is a highly picturesque, safe, and enjoyable way to get out of the car and stretch your legs.
