Rivertrees Country Inn

Rivertrees Country Inn

Rivertrees Country Inn is located in northern Tanzania, just outside the bustling safari town of Arusha. It looks out toward Mt. Kilimanjaro, which is ideally situated for exploring this region’s abundant nature reserves.

The inn is a charming country estate once a coffee farm and retains the nostalgic air of a well-loved homestead. Sprawling ten acres of fertile greenery, the grounds are a natural extension of Mt Maseru’s sloped foothills and offer a sanctuary for the birds and wildlife indigenous to the area.

Elegantly rustic cottages are dotted along the river and in thickets of tall trees, while lush lawns and birdsong make for a peaceful and picturesque setting. Set in the heart of an area rich in nature reserves, montane forests, and vibrant village culture, the scope for exploration is endless.

The restaurant concocts tasty meals with garden-fresh ingredients, old family recipes, oven-fired pizzas, and the best of the region’s locally grown coffees. Delicious candle-lit dinners are served by the warmth of the fireplace or under the stars and the watchful eyes of resident owls.

Rivertrees combines unpretentious comfort with subtle accents of style to create a timeless pause in a journey and a sense of warmth and genuine welcome.

Because Rivertrees grew in stages, each cottage was designed with individual thought and care and furnished with unique attention. The design makes the most of the riverine nooks, bends, and clearings in leafy groves to grant each dwelling a sense of privacy and peace.

A few hours meandering through the bustling village of Usa River offers an enchanting insight into day-to-day Tanzanian life and an excellent way to interact with the region's vibrant culture. A guide will lead the way past local farms, stopping to talk farming methods with the people working the fields before escorting you to the heart of the community to impart a flavor of the village's color and vitality.

Lake Duluti Canoeing
17

A short drive in the direction of Arusha leads to the little-known gem that is Lake Duluti Forest Reserve. The lake is a crater enclosed by plush slopes of forest leading down to the water’s edge. An afternoon canoeing across its calm surface offers stunning views of Mt Meru and a wealth of birdlife residents to its surroundings. Most notably, flocks of Cattle Egrets numbering in the hundreds swoop in overhead as they return to roost toward evening.

While the swarming safari circuit circles Arusha and Kilimanjaro, Rivertrees is tucked away out of town and serves as a gateway to the abundance of natural wonders indigenous to Northern Tanzania. It is also a beautiful destination in its own right. For those in transit to and from safari, it provides a peaceful pause between destinations… And for those who are lingering longer, there is a wealth of interests just on its doorstep.

Arusha National Park Day Trip
29

This treasure of an understated park merits a whole safari in its own right, and it spans a territory teeming with natural wonders. Its terrain scales the lichen-forested slopes up to Mt Meru’s craggy peak, whose foothills nestle the flamingo-filled Momela lakes. Buffalo dot the marshy heart of Ngurdoto Crater, and grassy meadows of wildlife intersperse cool shady forests festooned with orchids, birds, and colobus.
