Kilimanjaro Trekking Lemosho Route

The Lemosho Route is renowned for its picturesque landscapes and diverse ecosystems. This route begins on the western side of Mount Kilimanjaro and gradually ascends, providing ample time for trekkers to acclimatize to the high altitude. The route offers stunning panoramic views, passing through dense rainforests, moorlands, and alpine deserts before reaching the snow-capped summit. It typically takes around 8 to 9 days to complete the Lemosho Route, allowing for better acclimatization and increasing the chances of reaching the summit successfully.

Mountain Camps/ Kilimanjaro Trekking Lemosho Route

Camp comfortably in customized all-weather tents with upgraded zippers, flysheets, and closed-cell full-ground pads. Private toilet tents and solar-lit dining tents are provided daily. The camp’s chef prepares hot meals from fresh ingredients. In the afternoons, hot drinks and snacks are provided.

Day 1: Arrival in  Moshi

Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, our representative will greet you and take you to your luxurious accommodation in Moshi. Take the time to relax, settle in, and attend a briefing session with our expert guide, who will provide you with important information about your upcoming climb. Enjoy a delicious dinner and rest to prepare for the adventure ahead.

Day 2: Starting point (2,300m) to Mti Mkubwa (2,750m)

After breakfast, you will depart from Moshi and drive to the Londorossi Gate, the starting point of your Lemosho Route trek. Once the necessary paperwork is completed, you will continue by 4×4 vehicle to the Lemosho Glades trailhead. Here, you will begin your hike through the lush rainforest, observing the diverse flora and fauna. Enjoy a delicious dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Mti Mkubwa (2,750m) to Shira Camp 1 (3,550m)

Today’s trek takes you from the rainforest to the moorland zone. The trail gradually steepens as you ascend through stunning scenery. You will pass through the Shira Cathedral, a volcanic formation, before reaching the Shira 1 Campsite—Marvel at the panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, including Mount Meru and the Shira Plateau. Rest and relax in your camp and savor a delicious dinner.

Day 4: Shira Camp 1 (3,550m) to Shira Camp 2 (3,840m)

As you continue your ascent, the terrain becomes increasingly rocky and rugged. Today’s trek takes you to the Moir Hut, a desolate and scenic area known as Lent Hills. This section of the trail offers breathtaking views of the Western Breach and its glaciers. Arrive at the Moir Hut campsite, where your camp will be waiting. Enjoy a well-deserved rest, indulge in a gourmet dinner, and take in the serenity of your surroundings.

Day 5: Shira Camp 2 (3,840m) to Barranco Camp (3,950m) via Lava Tower

You will trek across the vast high desert landscape towards Lava Tower. As you ascend, you will notice a change in vegetation, with fewer plants able to survive at this altitude. After reaching Lava Tower, you will descend to Barranco Camp, a beautiful valley. This descent aids acclimatization and offers stunning views of the Western Breach and the Great Barranco Wall. Relax in your camp and enjoy a delicious meal before resting.

Day 6: Barranco Camp (3,950m) to Karanga Camp (3,930m)

Today’s trek involves navigating the famous Barranco Wall, a thrilling and challenging climb section. As you ascend the wall, you will use handholds and steps to maneuver your way to the top. Once you conquer the wall, the trail levels out, and you will continue to Karanga Camp. This campsite provides stunning views of the glaciers on the southern face of Kilimanjaro. Enjoy a restful evening in your camp and savor a well-prepared dinner.

Day 7: Karanga Camp (3,930m) to Barafu Camp (4,700m)

The trek from Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp is relatively short but steep. As you approach Barafu, you will be greeted by a stark, barren landscape characterized by rocks and boulders. This campsite is a base camp for your summit attempt and offers magnificent views of Mawenzi Peak. Rest and acclimatize at Barafu Camp, enjoy a nourishing dinner, and mentally and physically prepare for the summit push.

Day 8: Barafu Camp (4,700m) to Summit (5,895m) (midnight start) descent to Mweka Camp (3,100m)

Today is the most challenging yet rewarding day of your Mount Kilimanjaro Trekking. After a light breakfast, you will wake up in the early morning, around midnight, and begin your ascent towards Uhuru Peak, the highest point of Mount Kilimanjaro. The trek to the summit is steep and demanding, but the incredible sense of accomplishment and the breathtaking sunrise views make it all worthwhile.

As you reach Uhuru Peak, at an elevation of 5,895 meters (19,341 feet), celebrate your achievement and take in the awe-inspiring vistas of the surrounding glaciers and expansive landscapes below. Capture some unforgettable photos to cherish this moment forever.

After spending some time at the summit, you will begin your descent back to Barafu Camp. Here, you will have a short rest and enjoy a well-deserved hot lunch. Then, continue your descent to Mweka Camp, where your luxury camp will be waiting for you. Relish a delicious dinner and reflect on your incredible journey.

Day 9: Mweka Camp (3,100m) to Mweka Gate (1,800m) to Moshi

 On the final day of your Kilimanjaro adventure, you will descend from Mweka Camp through the lush rainforest. The trail gradually becomes more gentle as you go to the Mweka Gate, where you will complete the necessary formalities and receive your summit certificates.

Say farewell to your mountain crew and board the waiting vehicle, which will transport you to your luxury accommodation in Arusha. Once you arrive, take a well-deserved hot shower and enjoy some relaxation time. Then, celebrate your successful climb with a delicious dinner and perhaps share stories and memories of your journey.
